The Firm is a law firm which has just hired a new and upcoming lawyer, Mitchell McDeer. Mitchell, being quite naive as a lawyer will be just perfect for what The Firm has in mind: laundering money, tax evasion and murder.

Mitchell McDeer and his young wife, Abby, are quite excited as they move into their plush new home that The Firm has provided for them. Mitchell is going to start his first day for the company that following morning. As he walks outside of their home he finds a brand new Mercedes parked in the driveway. Abby and Mitch are delighted, as they may finally be getting all the good things in life that they have always wanted. They do not realize that they will get more than they bargained for. Mitch will have to try and protect his and Abby's lives after discovering that The Firm has mafia connections and they will use any means necessary to get what they want, including murder.

The McDeers have a pet dog, Hearsay, who is present in several scenes throughout the film. All action is basic. Hearsay is seen being petted, playing and romping with Mitchell in the backyard of their home, and riding in the family convertible. There is one scene in which there is a dog race. For this, actual footage of a dog race was shown.
